The invention of the computer undoubtedly revolutionized the world. As they rapidly evolved, new features were added to make their operation easier and increase their usefulness. People adopted them into their homes, and businesses began using them to store and process data, as well. Soon, the need to share information between computers gave rise to more efficient ways to transport information on disks, but the need for two computers to communicate directly was still very high. Thus, the demand for networking was born.

Computers today thrive off of connectivity to the world wide web, but the internet was born from the idea of having many computer connected together simultaneously, able to share data freely. That idea is still very alive and present today, and it has become easier than ever to set up and use a network to share information quickly and easily.

The basic form of a network is what is called and “ad-hoc” network, which is essentially just two computers connected together to share information. This can be done with a wired connection for stability and speed, or a wireless connection, since most computers these days come equipped with wireless network capabilities. Ad-hoc networks are typically used to share information quickly, and usually aren’t used for prolonged periods of time, since they may not support all the features that a traditional router-based network does.

A more common network seen in more situations is one that is run through a “hub” or “access point.” These devices act as a nexus point between several computers, allowing the computers to be aware of each other. The computers can share data between one another, much like the ad-hoc network, but many more computers can be connected together in this way to form a larger network.

More complex networks rely on “servers” to manage the data that flows between the computers, and may act as a central point that all the computers can access data from. These types of networks typically exist in larger businesses, since employees may need to store and retrieve data at all hours of the day, and require a persistent, reliable way to access this data. Servers also power the internet that most people are familiar with, storing all the information that people need when they wish to access web sites and services.

Setting up a computer network has been simplified considerably in recent years. What used to require specialized knowledge and sometimes years of training to set up can now be automated with the use of intelligent software and hardware that adheres to established standards.

In order to set up a home network that allows computers to access the internet, all most people will need is a router and modem of sort (depending on the company that provides your internet connection, usually cable or DSL, although wireless broadband is becoming more commonplace). Many internet service providers actually offer this hardware for rent or purchase to ensure that their customers are using hardware that is compatible and interoperable.

In most cases, the average consumer will not need to look beyond their local electronics retail store to find what they need to set up a home or small business network.

We all use computers every day in our home and work lives. This means that, at some time or another, all of us suffer from common PC defects and problems. Computers are complex, interrelated systems but most of the everyday issues commonly faced can be traced back to these three causes.

Too Long Since a Reboot

A restart should be the first step to troubleshooting any computer issue. It will fix some problems, especially “one-off” abnormalities, right away. A lot of temporary things happen while a computer is running. Programs and drivers open in memory and stay open, RAM is consumed and never given back, temp files are created and more. This is just how computers work, but it all adds up and compounds over time. A reboot clears all these temporary files and operations, offering a fresh start that might clear up strange problems.

Malware

Many computer defects, such as constant freezes, popup ads, slow performance and crashes, are caused by malware. This is a blanket term that stands for “malicious software” and it covers both viruses and adware.

Viruses are malicious programs designed to steal data, hijack your computer for nefarious purposes, crash your system or any number of other negative effects. Adware usually redirects your browser and homepage to unintended sites, causes popup ads and installs unwanted software filled with advertisements and code that downloads more adware.

The big problem with adware is that it’s specifically written to be hard to remove. Free anti-malware programs like Malware Bytes, Avast and Super Antispyware do a decent job, though. They should be installed, updated and run until their results come back clean. If malware persists despite your best removal efforts, it’s time to back up your data and reinstall Windows.

Too Many Background Programs

Over the life of our computers, we install many programs. A big problem with programs is that many, by default, add themselves to your computer’s Startup list, meaning they start at boot and run in the background. This is convenient because they will start faster when you need them but it also means they take a certain amount of memory. Too many programs running in the background could mean your computer doesn’t have enough memory left for the programs you actually are trying to use right now.

The easiest way to eliminate unnecessary background programs from stealing resources is to turn them off. A Windows utility called “MSCONFIG” is a simple way to do this. The easiest way to get to it is to click “Start, Run” and type “msconfig.” From there, click the “Startup” tab. Unchecking an item removes it from startup. A word of warning: keep a web browser window open and double or even triple check each item before you turn it off. Some of these programs are absolutely necessary. If you’re uncomfortable with doing this yourself, consult a repair professional.

Defragmentation is the process which helps the user to reduce the disintegration of the files on the user’s computer hard drive, a computers performance can be severely hampered if the hard drive connected to the computer gets fragmented. The user defragments their computer in order to reorganize their files in sequences so that the computer system runs faster. As all files gets arranged and placed in sequence and even files which acquires small places get stored in one place which allows the user to use more space.

If the files saved on the computer are unevenly spread out on the hard drive, it can cause the computer to take longer period of time to search or retrieve these files as compared to searching for files that are stored in a sequence and arranged properly. This method helps the user to search for a file instantly. This method of defraying definitely improves the performance of your computer.

Defragmenting your computers drive is a simple procedure that can be carried out by users at home and does not need much of technical knowledge. During the defragmentation process the computer automatically sorts out the files as per their usage and frequency of retrieval and stores these files accordingly, this not only helps make the computer faster, but also helps open up more space on the computers disks.

You can follow this simple procedure to defragment your computer running a windows operating system:

Uninstall programs or delete unwanted files which are unwanted and are taking up valuable disk space. This will make free space to store data that is required and relevant on the computer. This step also helps in arranging the files in proper order.

Check that all the programs which are not required are closed. This will make sure that your computer is not busy or that no program is running in the back ground which will slow down the speed of defragmentation process.

Make sure that all the programs which are automatically set to run at a particular time should be cancelled. Always make sure that you should run one program at a time for better effects.

See that temporary files are deleted so that you free up more disk space. To clean the files from the disk you the run the cleanmgr program in the windows.

Once you have completed these tasks, it is now time to defragment your computer. To defrag your computer, click on the start tab, select a program named dfrg.msc. Click on this program and then select the drive you wish to defrag i.e. C: drive which is default drive and then click on the defragment button. This would start the defragment process for your computer and arrange all your files in a proper manner.

Once you have defragmented your computer hard drive, you would be able to see immediate results in terms of improved speed. It would take lesser time for you to access your files as well as retrieve them. It is advised to defrag your computer regularly as well as run the cleanmgr program to ensure that your computer hard drive does not fragment and reduce the speed of your computer.

Bluetooth is a radio or wireless technology designed for short range data communications in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band. The frequency range is from 2.402Ghz to 2.480Ghz, with the available frequency spectrum being broken up into 79 x 1Mhz wide bands.

Bluetooth was designed by Ericsson as a short range wireless connectivity solution and is used to build Personal Area Networks, or PANs as they are known so that devices in close proximity can pass information. Typical examples being a mobile phone downloading data to a Personal Computer or a mobile phone earpiece communicating with the phone itself.

The technology behind Bluetooth is known as FHSS (Frequency Hopped Spread Spectrum), where the datastream is broken up into small pieces, each containing several binary bits of data which are transmitted in a pseudo random sequence over a series of up to 79 frequency bands. As Bluetooth has developed and matured, a number of data modulation schemes have been used to modulate the data onto the radio carriers including GFSK (Gaussian Frequency Shift Keying), DQPSK (Differential Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) and 8DPSK (8-ary Differential Phase Shift Keying). The development and use of the different modulation schemes were an attempt to increase the data rates of the system.

So how does Bluetooth operate?

Two or more Bluetooth devices that establish a connection (and share a channel) form a small wireless network known as a Piconet, with up to eight devices, forming the piconet. One device becomes the Master station, can join a Bluetooth piconet. Normally the device which initiates the connection will be the Master and other devices joining the PAN will be slaves. The master passes a Frequency Hopping Synchronisation (FHS) packet to any slaves containing its address and clock. The address of the Master Bluetooth device is used to determine the hop sequence and all slaves use the Master Clock to determine which frequency to transmit or receive on at any given time.

A group of piconets are referred to as a Scatternet, with each individual piconet having a unique hopping sequence, determined by it’s Master’s address. If a collision occurs where two devices transmit on the same frequency, a device will just retransmit the data on the next frequency hop. Although this can ultimately affect the performance and data rate of the transmission, it is the accepted method, just like collisions are a way of life in a shared Ethernet network when a hub is in use.

Devices can be a member of multiple piconets by using each Master address to determine the hopping sequence for each network, but can only be the Master for one piconet. The access method used by Bluetooth devices is known as TDD (Time-Division Duplex) where each device (Master and Slave) share the same frequency and are allocated a timeslot during which to transmit. A master will normally use even-numbered time slots and the slave will use odd numbered timeslots.

There are two types of transmission links normally supported by Bluetooth, known as SCO (Synchronous Connection-Orientated) and ACL (Asynchronous Connectionless Link). General Bluetooth operation uses ACL, where the packet and payload length will determine how many timeslots are required. Because ACL is Connection-Orientated, packets that are not acknowledged will be automatically retransmitted, abeit on a different timeslot or timeslots. Forward error correction can be employed as an option and although the data delivery may be more reliable, the data rate will reduce accordingly depending on how error prone the environment is at the time.

Voice over Bluetooth normally used an SCO link, where the voice data is sent over a number of reserved timeslots within an already established ACL link. Retransmissions do not occur on an SCO link as this could cause a number of problems, least of all latency and jitter. However, forward error correction can be used to provide a degree of reliability. There is an Enhanced version of SCO that can employ retransmission in some circumstances.

The latest version of Bluetooth, version 4 and all previous versions of Bluetooth have been designed to be backward compatible with previous versions, so no worry about using older devices with the newer Bluetooth devices.

The Bluetooth technologies have allowed us to provide fast data communications between devices that are in close proximity (within a few metres) without the need for a cable running RS-232 protocol for example and so have provided us with mobility free from the constraints imposed with the use of copper wiring.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) recognizes that customers are the core of a business and that a company’s success depends on effectively managing relationships with them. CRM focuses on building long-term and sustainable customer relationships that add value both for the customer and the company.

A large percentage of failures have been reported in Customer Relationship Management (CRM). For example, according to Zdnetindia.com/news, the founder and CEO of Customer.com estimated that 42 percent of the top 125 CRM sites experienced failures. Numerous failures are also reported by thinkanalytics.com, cio.com, CRM-forum.com, and many more. However, according to itgreycell.com, CRM failures are declining, from a failure rate of up to 80 percent in 1998 to about 50 percent in 2000.

Some of the major issues relating to Customer Relationship Management (CRM) failures are the following:

1. Difficulty measuring and valuing intangible benefits. There are few tangible benefits to CRM

2. Failure to identify and focus on specific business problems.

3. Lack of active senior management (non-IT) sponsorship.

4. Poor user acceptance, which can occur for a variety of reasons such as unclear benefits (i.e., CRM is a tool for management, but doesn’t help a rep sell more effectively) and usability issues.

5. Trying to automate a poorly defined process.

Strategies to deal with these and other problem are offered by many. (For example, see CIO.com for CRM implementation. Also see conspectos.com for “10 steps for CRM success”)

Customer Relationship Management failures could create substantial problems. Some companies are falling behind in their ability to handle the volume of site visitors and the volume of buyers. We describe the following suggestions for implementing CRM and avoiding CRM failure:

1. Conduct a survey to determine how the organization responds to customers.

2. Carefully consider the four components of CRM: sales, service, marketing and channel/partner management.

3. Survey how CRM accomplishments are measured; use defined metrics. Make sure quality, not just quantity, is addressed.

4. Consider how CRM software can help vis-a-vis the organization’s objective.

5. Evaluate all levels in the organization, but particularly frontline agents, field service, and salespeople.

6. Prioritize the organization’s requirements as: must, desired, and not important.

7. Select an appropriate CRM software. There are more than 60 vendors. Some (like Siebel) provide comprehensive packages, others provide only certain functions. Decide whether to use the best of breed approach or to go with one vendor. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) vendors, such as PeopleSoft and SAP, also offer CRM products

Businesses of all sizes will find themselves in need of IT services at one time or another. These services could be provided by anyone from a full-time IT staff with specifically outlined duties to simply an on-call IT firm summoned for emergencies. Either way, there’s much more to IT support than just desktop computer repair. Information technology service covers a wide range of critical areas that businesses need to be mindful of.

Servers and Infrastructure

When considering computer-related needs, most businesses think about their workstations first. That’s only half of the picture, though. The other piece, often just referred to as “the network,” consists of servers and infrastructure. Servers can host documents, handle company email, maintain databases, run corporate external and internal web sites and much more. Infrastructure consists of the network communication equipment, like routers and switches, which connect servers and desktops with each other. IT firms and company IT departments design and maintain a business’ network infrastructure and server hardware and software to maintain optimum performance and connectivity.

IT Security

A major IT service area that keeps increasing in prominence and importance is IT security. Security specialists and hackers are constantly one-upping each other in a battle over businesses’ data security. IT providers are charged with supporting infrastructure defense through the use of security devices like firewalls, web proxies and intrusion detection systems. They are also tasked with maintaining desktop-level security through antivirus and malware solutions. By executing a multi-tiered approach to security at the infrastructure, server and desktop levels, IT service departments work to guarantee the safety of businesses’ critical data resources.

Planning and Projects

The point of IT isn’t just keeping everything running for today. Rather, a major aspect of any business’ technology outlook is how it handles the company’s needs for the future. IT departments and contractors keep an eye on a company’s current technology, its capacity and its limitations. A business’ overall growth plan must also be taken into consideration, as should the hi-tech landscape and what new technologies are over the horizon. By considering all these factors, technology providers can plan hardware and software projects and manage upgrades proactively, ensuring a business’ future technological needs are always met.

Establishment of Corporate IT Policy

IT departments don’t only work with hardware and software. They are also heavily involved in the bureaucracy of a company’s day-to-day business. A key function of this is providing expert advisory services in the area of establishing corporate IT policy. IT policies and procedures establish guidelines for how a company’s staff utilizes its technology resources. Management, while adept at writing policy and coordinating staff, often lack the technical expertise to formulate thorough technology policy. IT services departments can bridge this “knowledge gap” by giving input and providing explanations to help corporate managers write suitable IT policy.
Goldendoodles are loving and calm dogsfor which they have gained recognition for after they was first developed in the 1990s. The Goldendoodle has a curly coat of about two to three inches in length, as his tail, body, ears, and legs have longer hairs compared to the hair on his head and muzzle where it tends to be shorter. The variety in color of coats are black, copper, white, cream, gray, golden, apricot, or red, although golden seems to be the most common coat color. Many owners like their dog’s hair to be clipped to avoid weekly or biweekly brushing.
